Drake: Speaks on BET Awards Show

Well baby loves I got some more Drizzy news!!!! Below is an interview that Drake did with Complex wherein he discusses the BET Awards, his deal, and him performing with and injured ACL. I rides with Drake so if he doing something I will certainly do my very very best to let you know...I just got his mixtape or CD and have been playing it 24/7. Even though the BET performance was primo wack I still *hearts* you Drizzy cause you da you da best!!!! *giggles*

Complex: There were rumors of a $4 million bonus…

Drake: [Laughs] Where is it? Tell me where it is, I’ll go pick it up right now. I got some money. I got a little money. I’ll be alright for a couple months.
Complex: Damn, that’s horrible. At the BET Awards this past Sunday, everyone was shocked to see you sitting on a stool. Did you ever think to yourself, Maybe I shouldn’t perform?

Drake: That, actually—to be honest—was a terrible idea that I’ll never do to myself again. [Laughs] But I was being pressed from different areas to perform, and I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of Mike, the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don’t think it called for us to perform “Every Girl” and “Always Strapped,” and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches. And to sort of climax out of a very tongue-in-cheek point, and then people misconstruing Wayne’s daughters and her friends coming out on stage…

Complex: Yeah, it really was an awkward moment.

Drake: Yeah, it was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn’t planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it’s nothing we can’t bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn’t intended to offend anybody.

Complex: Watching it at home, the BET Awards seemed to be a mess. Did it seem that way in person?

Drake: Well, I can only speak for my portion of it. I had asked for something very specific for my performance and none of those were met, as far as production value, so…

Complex: That’s BET for you…

Drake: I understood my situation, as far as sitting in one place, and figured there was a way to make it interesting. But when I looked around and noticed that none of that was going on [laughs], I kind of just realized that it was going to be a loss for me. But at the end of the day, it is what it is.

Vibe Magazine: Folded

Earlier this week the Internet was a buzz and news flooded many in boxes that one of our fabulous and fly magazines was NO MORE. The Dream and Christina Milian graced the last print issue. There have been rumors that Quincy Jones has plans to buy it back and make it into an online magazine.

Vibe, a staple of music journalism since 1993 and one of the most influential publications aimed at African-American readers, has folded.

The entire Vibe Media Group is shutting down effective Tuesday, according to a memo from CEO Steve Aaron. The staff had been in the process of editing a tribute issue of the magazine commemorating Michael Jackson.

The company was unable to secure financial backing, or to restructure a "huge debt," Aaron wrote. Declines in the music industry and in advertising worked against the business. "It’s also unfortunate that in a recession many companies reduce the multi-cultural campaigns," Aaron added.

Vibe Media Group was owned by private equity firm Wicks Group of Companies.

Vibe's last regular issue was published in May. Vibe Media Group had launched another spinoff in June The Most!, a glossy celebrity title meant to replace two issues cut from Vibe's publication schedule.

Vibe, which was founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones, billed itself as “the definitive voice of urban culture, influencing global music, life, and style.”

It had been a tough year for Vibe, which faced a steep drop in ad pages and circulation. Earlier this year, the magazine cut its rate base to 600,000 from 800,000, the second such cut in a year. Vibe also reduced its frequency from monthly to 10 times a year. Employees were put on a four-day workweek March 1.

Vibe rivals include The Source and XXL. In 2007, the company closed Vibe Vixen, a spinoff aimed at women.

Another music magazine, Blender, folded earlier this year. Blender was published by Alpha Media Group.

Vibe's closure was first reported Tuesday by AOL’s Daily Finance site. The VibeMagazine Twitter feed sent out a message early Tuesday afternoon saying simply, “Thanks for everything.”

BET Awards 2009: Came and Went

Well hells to the no, no, and no some more!!! The BET Awards 2009 came and went with a host of utter foolishness. I guess since they were trying to pay tribute to Michael Jackson the show just really never came together. I watched the show with my fabulous Twitter family and I promise you they went in HAM(hard as a mofo) on everybody and every act from New Edition to Keri Hilson to Beyonce to Drake and Lil Wayne...wishing they could F* every girl in the world with Lil Wayne's daughter, Reginae and her BFF's on stage. It was just a hot mess and trust and know I am being kind and careful with my words. On the good foot...LOL the O'Jays and Maxwell did well. *sigh* I was super touched that Janet Jackson showed up and spoke on behalf of the family...peep the video clip below, which includes Jamie Foxx and Ne-Yo. RIP MJ!!!
